About the Role:
MONUSCO is seeking a qualified Medical Officer to deliver critical health services to mission staff in Goma. This role supports the mission’s efforts in maintaining peace, justice, and strong institutions by ensuring the physical and mental well-being of its personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
– Provide general and emergency medical care, pre-employment exams, and immunizations
– Manage mass casualty incidents and emergency responses
– Train staff in CPR and First Aid
– Supervise a Level 1 medical facility and respond to emergencies (on-call duties required)
Administrative Duties:
– Coordinate with UN military medical units and local health facilities
– Ensure compliance with UN medical policies (clearances, referrals, evacuations)
– Support medical logistics and supervise training for medical readiness
General Duties:
– Mentor and coach local staff and health workers
– Coordinate closely with senior management and mission personnel
– Support capacity-building initiatives and lead on-the-job training sessions
Requirements:
– Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Medicine
– At least 3 years of relevant medical experience
– Valid license to practice medicine
– Proficiency with MS Office and medical equipment management
– Certifications such as BLS, ACLS, ATLS, PHTLS, or similar are an asset
– Military or post-conflict medical experience is a plus
– Must hold a valid driver’s license
Eligibility:
– Must be 18–80 years old
– Must be a national of a country other than the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Living Conditions:
Goma is considered a non-family duty station with limited amenities and a high cost of living. Volunteers must be ready for challenging conditions, including intermittent power and water supply, security concerns, and limited medical facilities. Malaria is prevalent—prophylaxis is strongly advised. Volunteers should be up to date on all required vaccinations.

– MONUSCO operates under UN Security Phase III in most regions
– Payments may be processed in cash; access to ATMs and banks may be limited outside major cities
– US Dollars and Congolese Francs are the primary currencies
